Columbus Short tells his side of things

Popular culture
8 July, 2014

Columbus Short has had a weird year; I think we can all agree on that. But what happened?  From being charged for misdemeanour spousal battery, aggravated assault and losing his job on Scandal, Short finally speaks out. In an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, Columbus Short talks candidly about his troubles.

Columbus says his misadventures have been misunderstandings based on the fact that his personal life has been magnified because he is a celebrity. He admits he hasn’t been perfect but says he hasn’t been all the things that have been reported in the press.

He was arrested for public intoxication on 4 July following another bar fight. He said he wasn’t involved in a fight but did say some things to the police.

“There was no fight. I was involved in no fight,” he said. “I was with a group of people that were eating, I went to the bathroom, I came back and there was an altercation ensuing when I came back.”

“It was a misunderstanding and I guess the cops thought I was someone involved in the situation. And then they grabbed me up, and by the time I was on the ground … I apologised to the officers later, but I said some pretty choice words when I was already in cuffs.”

Short admitted that he and his wife Tannee were going through some serious problems but says: “I’m not a physically violent man. I’ve never put my hands on a woman…physically…ever and would not. His wife filed for divorce in April and currently has a restraining order against him.
