You deserve to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life once in a while, and a weekend break in Europe is just the ticket! Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, enjoy picturesque scenery, or party until dawn, there’s no better place than Europe to do it. Here are 5 of our favourite city breaks that will make your weekend unforgettable!
Athens
A City of History and Culture Athens is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities to visit in Europe. Its classical structures will take your breath away and force you to explore every nook and cranny. While walking down its streets, you will feel transported back to antiquity, with many statues dedicated to gods, goddesses, philosophers, and other people who impacted Greek culture. It’s a city that can only be experienced by visiting it. There are no words that can accurately describe what you’ll see when visiting Athens; instead, we highly recommend taking some time off work or school and making your way there as soon as possible!
Budapest
The stunning Hungarian capital of Budapest is a ‘must visit’ for any traveller, but particularly for those who enjoy history and art. The city has been occupied by Roman legions, invaded by Ottoman Turks and more recently scarred by World War II; however, it was also a cultural capital of Central Europe at various points throughout its history. You can experience preserved Romanesque churches with famous frescoes and ornate buildings in gothic and baroque styles as you walk through Budapest.
Venice
Venice is one of Italy’s most popular destinations, and no wonder – it’s beautiful. In fact, with its twisting canals and medieval architecture, some travellers call Venice the floating city. There are many ways to explore Venice, including water taxis that offer great views of many landmarks like St Mark’s Square. It’s also an excellent place for art and history lovers, as there are countless museums and galleries. And when you need a break from all that sightseeing, you can enjoy an authentic Italian meal at one of Venice’s many restaurants or cafes.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a fantastic destination for lovers of good beer, quaint cafes, and beautiful architecture. The city has more bikes than people, making it very easy to get around (without worrying about traffic jams). The Dutch are also renowned for their art and craftsmanship, evident in their well-preserved buildings dating back centuries ago. With over 100 museums and plenty of gorgeous canals, you could easily spend two weeks here exploring everything Amsterdam offers!
Copenhagen
A Danish city break is a must for anyone who loves beautiful things. Copenhagen has enough museums and galleries to keep culture vultures happy, but there’s more to it than art. A short train ride from Copenhagen will bring you to Legoland. The Lego-based theme park offers thrills and chills for all ages and can be combined with a visit to Klampenborg Zoo—home to over 300 different animal species from around 60 countries.
