When is it the right time to live your life?

Popular culture
12 September, 2013

We are conditioned from early on that there is a time and place for everything. We go to school, we learn, we leave and get jobs, get married and make babies. That’s the matrix.

Anybody who does things outside of these norms is seen as different. Even though having kids outside of marriage is no longer an issue, there’s always that one person who can make you feel like shit. Because at the end of the day some people really believe you should have waited until he put a ring on it!

Just wait

Somewhere right now there are women who are in bad marriages but are waiting for the kids to grow up so that they can leave. There are parents waiting for the kids to grow up so they can go on romantic holidays and live exciting lives.

There are children with big business ideas waiting until they can come of age to put those ideas into practice.

There are people waiting for their fortunes to change, waiting for opportunities…waiting, waiting, waiting! We are conditioned to wait.

Dance in the rain

But life shouldn’t be about waiting. As the old saying goes: Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

Procrastination

Whilst we wait around doing nothing, we are not actively pursuing our dreams or goals. Waiting gives us time to change our minds, waiting for the right time to leave a violent husband gives him the opportunity to change your mind. Waiting for the kids to leave home when some may chose never to leave. Waiting to pursue a business idea gives someone else the time to launch the same thing.

Some of us play the waiting game as a buffer to protect ourselves from failure or fear of failure. There are actually some people who don’t’ think they deserve success and others who could win Olympic medals in the game of procrastination. But to quote another old saying: don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

Live your life now!

I’m not saying we should be rushing into things, I am saying we should actively pursue our dreams, make plans, set goals, make adjustments for stormy weather, live your life now and learn to dance in the rain.
