No Apology

9 January, 2012

Following the media storm in a teacup last week, police received more than 40 complaints about MP Diane Abbott’s “racist” slur against white people — but she will NOT face charges. The shadow junior health minister tweeted that whites “love playing divide and rule” during a Twitter conversation last week.

Met officers were urged to charge her with racial harassment – like England football captain and Chelsea defender John Terry has been for his alleged remarks to black QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

Police in Ms Abbott’s Hackney constituency spoke to Crown Prosecution Service lawyers — and decided her comment must be taken in context with other tweets.

A Met spokesman said last night: “We do not believe an offence has been committed.”

This is good news; it’s just a pity she had to apologise for her tweet.

Zita Holbourne seems to agree with us as she has written this poem in response to the attack on Diane Abbott.
