Negative body image and low self-esteem can lead to disaster

Popular culture
17 May, 2012

I’ve heard some men say they don’t like weaves or make up, but women insist on spending money on them.

Some men do, however, like a big butt on a woman. Is this why some women will go to crazy extents to enhance their buttocks, including illegal operations?

A Los Angeles woman has become a multiple amputee after unlicensed buttock enhancement injections led to near-fatal infections.

April Brown lost her hands and feet to infection after the cosmetic procedure left her in “excruciating pain” for five years.

The former cosmetologist, fashion designer and mother-of-two said the injections were done at what was called a “pumping party”. The injections contained industrial grade silicone.

Ms Brown has refused to identify the person who gave her the buttock injections, saying her self-esteem issues were to blame.

Ms Brown is one of many people left seriously hurt by unlicensed buttock injections.

Last year a London tourist died after undergoing the procedure in a hotel room in Philadelphia.

Six women in New Jersey were hospitalised after receiving injections of silicone commonly used to waterproof bathtubs.

Last year in Florida, a transgender woman was arrested for injecting a patient’s buttocks with a combination of cement and tyre sealant.

I have to ask this question: What will it take for women to be happy with what they have?

Isn’t it better to accentuate what you love about yourself and accept what you don’t? We can’t all be video vixens, and quite frankly, we shouldn’t be trying to be.

People come in all shapes and sizes, that’s what makes us different, and believe me, different is good.
