Author James Farrell, a passionate environmentalist and coach, wrote Being In Nature, a book of simple, science-based practices that will help readers feel happier and healthier by connecting with nature.
This highly original pocket guide is beautifully illustrated and full of positive wisdom that is written to assist readers, and our planet, to thrive.
Anybody can practice the twenty mindfulness techniques, which include listening to natural sounds, drawing on childhood memories, and feeling awe of nature. The book draws on science which shows that people who connect with nature are more likely to lower their environmental footprint.
As a child, Farrell developed a connection to nature. The hunt for spiders in walls on the way to school led to a career in environment and nature conservation. In addition to managing a Shetland Isle and studying birds in Borneo, Farrell has led environmental policies, partnerships, and programmes across England. Farrell is also an accredited coach who specialises in coaching with nature and the science of nature and health.
James Farrell says, “Science shows we benefit from stopping and engaging with nature around us when we go outdoors. Connecting to nature through these simple practices helps us feel calmer, happier and more satisfied with life – and may inspire us to take more action in our daily lives that is good for the planet.”
Stephen Moss, naturalist and author, says: “A great book – useful and inspiring!”
Psychologist and author Dr Pippa Grange said, “A wonderful book – so necessary at this time to reconnect people to the ground they stand on and the air they breathe.”
