Beware email scams and thieves at Christmas

It’s that most wondrous time of the year when wankers find more stupid and wicked ways to perpetuate harm against innocent folks.

Christmas time may bring joy to most people’s lives but it is also a time when thieves, scammers and other shiesty people come out of the woodwork looking for a quick buck.

The latest email scams for instance rely on the fact that you may have order goods online. Wherever they have scrapped your email address from, you may receive fake emails purporting to be from the Royal Mail or Amazon.

Royal mail scam
Royal mail scam

The Royal Mail one reads:

Mail – Lost / Missing package – UK Customs and Border Protection

Royal Mail has detained your package for some reason (for example, lack of a proper invoice, bill of sale, or other documentation, a possible trademark violation, or if the package requires a formal entry) the RM International Mail Branch holding it will notify you of the reason for detention (in writing) and how you can get it released.

It’s made to look like it could be official by placing links in the bottom to the Royal Mail website. The giveaway is the attached zipped file that contains a Trojan virus that can steal information from local internet browsers, including credit card details and passwords.

Delete the email and do not open the attachment!

Amazon email scam

The Amazon.co.uk fake is the worst fake I have ever seen. If these wank-stains actually shopped at Amazon, they would know that invoices do not come attached to an email and details of the item ordered would be in the body of the email. It reads:

Good evening,
Thank you for your order. We’ll let you know once your item(s) have dispatched. You can check the status of your order or make changes to it by visiting Your Orders on Amazon.co.uk.
Order Details
Order ID319-1851667-5740839 Placed on December 1, 2013

Order details and invoice in attached file.

Need to make changes to your order? Visit our Help page for more information and video guides.

The attachment contains a virus which will again attempt to steal your data or cause harm to your computer.

Again delete the email and do not open the attachment! Remember to keep your anti-virus software up to date.

Old skool shopping

On the subject of thieves, if you kick it old skool and go out to do your Christmas shopping, remember these rules

  • Don’t leave your stuff on display in your car
  • Keep your purse/wallet in a safe place
  • Watch out for people hovering around cash machines
  • Don’t leave your 40inch TV box in the front garden you are just advertising to burglars

Have a wonderful Christmas!
