Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to marry this week in private ceremony

Popular culture
1 May, 2014

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly getting married this week, though earlier reports claimed the pair were going to wait until May. In a surprise twist, it has also been claimed that the ceremony will be private, though it was initially thought the two would have the wedding filmed for Kardashian’s E! reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

The couple are slowly starting to reveal some details about their wedding, such as date and location, as the big day gets closer. However, did baby North West’s parents confirm that they are having more than one wedding?

“They will have a civil ceremony to acquire their marriage license here,” said a source.

Although the ceremony will be a small private civil courthouse wedding, they plan to go big on a blowout party afterwards.

Their low-key wedding is most likely a result of the French law that requires people getting married in their country to reside there for at least 40 days.

While Kanye owns an apartment in Paris, the residency is not his main home, therefore, officially tying the knot there would be impossible.

The French embassy in Washington DC confirmed: “The mayor can authorise the deputy mayor or a city councillor to perform the ceremony in the town in which one of the parties to be married has resided for at least 40 days preceding the marriage. These requirements cannot be waived.”

Having a registry office wedding, however, could mean that Jay Z and Beyoncé will see their mates tying the knot after all.

Kardashian and West were reportedly advised by lawyers to have a US ceremony before going to Europe.

“Typically, the US recognises citizens getting married in France, but dealing with a foreign government and paperwork could be a nightmare,” said the report. “So just to make sure it’s legal, Kim and Kanye will first be having a civil ceremony in Southern California.”
