Kony is a word you’re going to see a lot of over the next few days — but just what or who is Kony?

Kony is Joseph Kony, the leader of the Christian terrorist group the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda.

While violence in Uganda has raged on for years, not many people have paid attention to it. Not because they don’t care, but because they haven’t known a lot about it. However, a new video aims to educate people about Joseph Kony and the genocide in Uganda. One of the major issues is the kidnapping of children to be used as child soldiers.

A documentary created by the Invisible Children is currently going viral on Twitter and Facebook right now, and plenty of famous faces have gotten involved in spreading the word. The aim? Make Kony famous. Not famous in a good way — famous to raise support for his arrest.

Invisible Children is a non-profit organization working to end Africa’s longest-running war and bring Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, to justice.

Invisible Children was established in 2005 by three young filmmakers who travelled to Africa in search of a story.

After learning about Kony and the ongoing war, they made it their mission to educate as many minds as possible. They have since reached millions of people through their films.

Kony and his army have been abducting children across Central Africa for 26 years.

Since his reign, Kony has abducted more than 30,000 children using ruthless tactics
