George Zimmerman vs DMX bad taste boxing match cancelled

DMX Zimmerman
Popular culture
8 February, 2014

Those who opposed the controversial DMX vs George Zimmerman boxing match will be glad to hear that the fight is off.

Damon Feldman, who has organised a number of fights between stars, took to his Twitter to say the fight was cancelled. The boxing match provoked a wave of criticism and led to threats being made against him. Not surprisingly as the announcement of the fight was made on what would have been victim Trayvon Martin’s 19th birthday. Add that to the fact that Zimmerman should not be allowed to make money from Trayvon’s death.

A petition aimed at Damon Feldman was set up and received over a 100,000 signatures. A “Cancel George Zimmerman’s ‘Celebrity’ Boxing match” Facebook page received 317,000 likes and civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton warned against glorifying Zimmerman.

DMX was reportedly selected out of 15,000 applicants after Zimmerman issued a challenge for anyone to step into the ring with him.

“I am going to beat the living **** out him … I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I **** him right up,” DMX apparently earlier told TMZ when asked about the chance to fight Zimmerman.

DMX spokesman Domenick Nati told E! News, “Damon Feldman has announced that the George Zimmerman fight is cancelled via his Twitter. As previously stated, DMX never agreed to the fight and we thank you for all the support from DMX’s fans.”

Power to the people. Glad to see the money grabbing Feldman finally saw sense. I don’t agree with the death threats and stuff though.

I’m with you on the death threats, they are unnecessary. I reckon he came to his senses because of petitions and outrage.
