Travel is resuming at a fast pace after the Covid-19 restrictions worldwide. The stress from the pandemic made us all yearn to travel now more than ever. You always want to be as informed as possible before you start your trip. So here are some helpful tips from veteran travellers.

1. Get vaccinated

The best way to enjoy your trip is to get vaccinated. Many countries around the world are only allowing vaccinated individuals into their borders. If you are fully vaccinated, you won’t have to be restricted as much in your travels. You can visit more places and partake in more activities than if you are unvaccinated.

2. Know the covid rate of where you live and your destination

All travel comes with a risk of getting or spreading Covid. However, you can reduce the chances by avoiding places that are Covid hotspots. Some countries might not allow you entry if you come from a place with a high Covid infection rate.

3. Be prepared to take PCR tests

If you aren’t vaccinated, take a PCR test a few days before your trip. You might be required to present a Covid negative certificate at your destination. Some places will also test you before entry. Make sure to check all the Covid-19 requirements and restrictions of your destination to be better prepared.

4. Pack light

One of the main pieces of advice you will get from veteran travellers is to pack light. Trust me; you don’t need all those clothes and shoes. Whatever you have packed, cut it in half. You can always buy more clothes at your destination.

5. Always get travel insurance

Before you leave home, get travel insurance. Travel insurance will cover all your costs in case of an injury or illness. You won’t have to worry about high hospital and ambulance bills.

6. Pack a sarong

A Sarong is very useful and light to carry around. It can serve as a scarf or blanket in the evenings when it gets chilly. During the day, a sarong can be your beach towel. A sarong can also be used as a headscarf in some parts of the Middle East and Asia.

7. Learn basic phrases of the local language

Whether you are travelling to Japan, Dubai or any other non-English speaking country, one of the ways to make your travel smoother is by learning the basic phrases of the local language. Learn how to say “Hello”, “Thank You”, “Sorry”, and “Goodbye”. It pleases the locals when tourists try to communicate with them in their local dialect.

8. Avoid places that are too crowded

Although travel resumed, Covid is still present. Unlike before, when you could get lost in the crowd as you wander, try to reduce your time in crowded places. This way, you can reduce the risk of contracting or spreading Covid.

9. Emergency cash and extra credit/debit card

Emergencies are always a part of the travel experience, so you should prepare for them. Don’t carry one credit card. Take an extra two or three in case you lose one or have an issue with the bank. Carry emergency cash of about £200 to £300. Ensure you split the money in different places, such as in your pockets and bag.

10. Don’t over plan your day

It is tempting to want to see and do everything a place can offer, especially if you are on a weekend city break. However, over-planning your day is always a mistake. Don’t rob yourself of the joys of truly experiencing a place because you were in a rush. Reduce activities in your itinerary and let some days just unfold.

Above all else, Enjoy Your Trip! Take good photos of yourself, sample the street food, wander around, and chat up random strangers. Travel is about adventure. Let loose and experience life in a new place with new people.

Best of luck in your travels.
