Straz, who brought us the amazing Spartacus series, have given the greenlight to eight episodes of rapper turned actor, Curtis Jackson’s aka 50 Cent’s drama, Power.

The series is executive produced by Jackson and Courtney Kemp Agboh. It tells the story of a wealthy New York City nightclub owner, James “Ghost” St Patrick, who wants to build an empire.

Ghost wants to turn the club into a Fortune 500 business, but there’s a big problem in his plans: he is living a double life as the kingpin of the most lucrative drug network in New York. Oh hum!

Ghost’s marriage, family and business all become unknowingly threatened as he is tempted to leave his criminal life behind and become the rags-to-riches businessman he longs to be.

“Curtis has a unique and specific vision for the series, lending it an authenticity and voice rarely seen,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said.

Power explores “a world of beauty, luxury, danger and death, all against the struggle of one man to define his nature and his soul,” says Agboh. “While the power and peril of Ghost’s world are specific, we hope to address the truly universal questions we all face when we look in the mirror: who am I? Where am I going? Who do I want to become?”

Courtney Kemp Agboh created the show and will act as showrunner as well as writer. Her series credits include The Good Wife, The Bernie Mac Show and Eli Stone.

Jackson’s main focus will be on his duties as executive producer and overseeing music for the show but there’s a chance may also appear on the series.

Production of the show is due to start in late 2013.
